CHINESE ARCHITECTURE
——
This project was part of the Interactive Communication Systems course at the HfG. As part of this course, two fellow students and I chose the topic of Chinese architecture as a focus point. The goal was to design an interactive system that gives a detailed overview of the history of Chinese architecture, from past to present.
CONCEPT
——
The main focus of the System was based around a timeline that connects the different buildings in time. The user can switch between three types of screens:
POWERMATE
——
Since the system is heavily based on scroll interactions we chose to use the griffin PowerMate as our main control device. The Powermate is a clickable, twistable knob which can be used instead of, or in addition to a mouse. In our case we set it up so that the user could scroll through the timeline by twisting the knob.
LOCATION VIEW
——
This screen displays a map of China as it is seen today. The Location View includes a Timeline where the user can scroll through the different buildings in time, while the buildings are shown one by one as dots on the map. By clicking the dots, the user can see that particular building in the detail view.
DETAIL VIEW
——
This view displays the main information about the building, as well as a detailed visual representation and a close-range map. As with the Location View, the timeline can be used to scroll between the different buildings.
GENERAL INFO
——
This view contains general information about the particular characteristics of Chinese architecture, communicated using text and illustration.
